The Amazing Spider-Man was much better than expected!

The director of the previous Spider-Man movie series Sam Raimi did not agree with Sony Pictures on the script and the characters in what was supposed to be the Spider Man 4 movie, which was cancelled in the end. Sony Pictures announced that the series would be rebooted with new script and new characters and released in 2012.

The result is the Amazing Spider-Man.

I watched it in IMAX 3D, and loved it all the 2 hours 20 minutes.

If you haven’t seen it yet, don’t read anything from here. It’s a spoiler.

Spider man jumps and flies around and above New York city. I recommend to watch it in a big screen. It does not have to be 3D, though. If you’re scared of heights, this movie is not for you.

This new spider man likes to show his face. He takes off the mask in many occasions, which shows us more of his human aspects but I think this was a little overdone.

As for overdoing, there was a scene where the spider man (Peter Parker) takes his girl friend (Gwen Stacy) and jumping around in the night using the artificial spider threads. It was a bit bizarre, to say the least. I guess some people might like it, though. But I did not like that scene.

Having said that, I should not pay attention to small things when watching spider man or any super hero movies for that matter.

One thing I felt pity about was that the father of Gwen, the police man, died near the end of the movie. He had a good strong character and I enjoyed his interaction with Peter Parker. I really hoped he did not die. From the script point of view, it makes sense that he dies since he saw the spider man’s real face. As such, he can not continue to play that role in the movie.

That’s the time I felt the intention of people behind this movie who can manipulate the characters as they wish… not that great feeling as I wanted to be immersed in the movie without thinking of how the story was built to make sense. It was only a few moments of disappointment but it may be just me. What did you feel?

Overall, the movie is a success. New director and new casts gave me a much better version of spider man movie.

In the end of the movie, there was a scene that tells us they are making the next movie (in fact, it is announced that it will be a trilogy). I’ll definitely watch the next one and I can not wait to see!
